Spending an evening with the family singing karaoke to Hannah Montana and High School Musical 2. This is awesome!
Kids had a nice nap this afternoon, trashy hors'dourves are in the kitchen and unlimited Kahlua coffee. What more can you ask for? 2007 was great. 2008 will be even better.
Wishing everyone who reads this a Happy New Year. Yes, I know it is only one person and I wish you the best!

YEA FOR ME!
I can't cook. I try occassionally but usually to no avail. Our usual home cooked meal consists of tacos, hamburgers (grilled) or spaghetti (which my adorable husband makes because I can't seem to measure the spaghetti correctly). However, this has all changed!
We usually go out for Thanksgiving dinner so I decided to try and make a full meal at home last weekend. I've tried it before and it usually ends with "Nice try honey...wanna go out to eat tonight?" This year was a complete surprise.
I tried a 'brine' recipe which my friend sent me. I still don't know what it means but it was simple so I tried it. Not sure if that is why it is so good, but WOW, it was awesome. The turkey had flavor this year!
The mashed potatoes which usually end up very 'liquidy' turned out perfect, the sweet potatoes (with pecans) were yummy, the homemade mac and cheese (yes, I have kids), was delish, the noodles were awesome and the pumpkin pie was just right.
The whole experience was great...except....the damn dishes. I think we did 3 loads of dishes that day with all of the pots, pans, dinner plates and leftover plates. My husband, bless his heart, did most of the clean up. He was great.
I got a 'Thank you' from my husband AND kids.
(Yes, we went out to eat the next night!)
Happy Thanksgiving!

Diligent, I am not
Wow, not an entry since September. That blows. Let's try to catch up the last 2 months.
Work has been a nightmare but with accounting/finance, that is expected. Each quarter is a mess and then throw the damn budget on top of it all and you might as well just screw the holidays. Oh well, tis the season.
My daughter has loose teeth. She is almost seven so she has lost teeth before but OMG, I cannot stand wiggly teeth. It is one of the grossest things I have ever seen. Plus, she likes to smile at you and then use her tongue to start pushing the tooth back and forth just for kicks. AAUGH. I send her away every time she tries it. Oh, she knows that it disgusts me, and usually she's pretty good about only showing her father, but she is seven....
My son is almost 4. He is in a stage of becoming the 'big kid'. He talks like he's older and is acting more mature (as mature as a 4 year old can be) but he is also into the stage of "Only Daddy makes me happy". This is fine because for a long time it was the "Only Mommy" stage and I loved it. I guess Daddy needs some time as well. One thing he does is takes swim lessons. The funny part is that when he swims, he only uses his right arm. The other one kind of moves under the water but he has no interest in letting it help move him through the water. He thinks it is funny though and just laughs. I wonder if he will be laughing in 12 years when he is still in the Three - Level Three class with the other 3/4 year olds only swimming in a counterclockwise circle...or would it be clockwise. Not the point.
In case anyone is a college football fan, the Kansas Jayhawks are #3 in the country (according to the BCS poll). KU is getting a lot of grief for this in that, admittidly so, they have a fairly weak schedule this year, but for goodness sakes, they are still #3 and, damn it, I'm gonna talk it up for as long as I can. They haven't been out of the cellar in years. Good for them. And by the way, Coach Mangino is gonna have a coronary soon if he doesn't lay off of the alfredo sauce. And, he is a sporting coach, I find it odd, but I try not to judge....to much. I would put in a link to one of his gigantic pictures, but I don't know how so just google it if you are interested.
As you can see, I haven't done much of interest in the last 2 months.
My friend is still pregnant. She is beginning the phase of "Holiday Guilt" and she hasn't even had the kid yet. It gets worse. Do you spend the holidays in a hotel to make yourself and your immediate family more comfortable and less stressed, or do you stay at the grandparents and endure the stress that happens at every grandparents house, or do you stay at the sister's house so the kids and their cousins that they see once a year can play together more but then you endure the stress of the grandparents being upset that they aren't with the grandkids all of the time during the holidays. Sigh. It is a no-win situation, but you love your family so you go through it every year.
Ok, time to budget some more. I'll update in another couple of months! Happy Holidays!

What to do
Woe is me. I have a softball game tonight at 7:30 and it is only 5:00. This wouldn't seem like such a problem except for the fact if I were to actually go home then I would be caught in traffic for all of the 2.5 hours and bascially waste a tank of gas. I could stay at work and get a little bit more done but for some reason it has been just an overall beating today and I don't know if I can stay here much longer even if I'm just typing this blog.
I could go to the car and read my book (again) or I could go to the gym for a while. Now you might think this is a good way for me to 'warm up' for the game (which I haven't played since this time last year), but in fact, the gym has a huge locker room with a plasma TV and nice soft couch which would be calling my name instead of the treadmill which I so desperately need. A nice little workout would probably ease my built up tension but I know it's not going to happen.
I did read my favorite blog (that someone else posts and is quite entertaining) and checked to see if the other blog I read has been udpated, but alas, it was not. I assume there are only 3 blogs on the entire internet (including mine) so I guess I have exhausted that trail of entertainment. I sure wish Mr. Gore had invented more of those. Now he is out saving the world so I guess enhancing the internet is now secondary in his career.
I can't decide if I want it to rain or not. I keep checking the weather.com radar and it is splotchy at best. I like playing softball even if it is just one tournament a year. The problem is I can't run. I was called "Goose" in highschool and I had no idea why until I saw a video of my self running up and down a basketball court. That is, if you could call it running. I was truly embarrassed. And now I am about to go through the embarrasment again but I have resigned myself to the fact of how slow and laborious my running style is (and everyone on my team has resigned themselves as well). Unfortunately, we observed our daughter running the bases the other day....Bless her heart. Who knew it was hereditary?

Kids - What are they good for?
Well, my friend (the only one who reads my blog) is pregnant. She is going through hell and bitching about the early stages of pregnancy and all that implies. I completely understand even though I didn't have to deal with all of the shit that she is. However, I wanted to highlight the subject of "Kids - What are they good for?"
1. They give you someone to cuddle with even when they are crying.
2. They give you someone to cuddle with even when YOU are crying.
3. They love without question.
4. They will come up to you and say you are pretty when you just wake up in the morning.
5. They will crawl in bed with you in the middle of the night and wrap their arms around you for no reason. (and then they kick you in the head as they move around in their sleep)
6. You can take them to their first day of school and ask how it went when the day is over...and they tell you over and over and over with a big smile on their face.
7. They will share their bed with you when your house is completely torn apart from putting in wood floors.
8. They will promise that they will only ask for 2 more scoops of ice cream and 'that is all'.
9. They make your grandparents happy.
10. They will reason with you to get what they want until you finally give in IF they 'pay for it with a hug and a kiss'.
There are so many more but this just highlighted my week so far.
No matter what you are going through now, it is worth it...it just might take a LONG while to realize it.

Saturday Night
Well, it's been a while since my First Blog Ever. The biggest reason is I couldn't remember my user name or password. I guess i tried to be too creative and blew it. Oh well, I have it now.
Today was rather uneventful. I made 3 kinds of homemade ice cream which are now in the process of thickening. I hope so at least, a couple of them were no closer to solidifying than when i began but we'll see. We're also keeping close watch on Hurricane Dean but for what reason I do not know. We are from Kansas and we grew up watching storms, mostly tornadoes, so maybe that has continued, who knows...or better yet, who cares?
I won an award at work this week. It's a pretty big one for employees and I'm not sure I deserved it but someone thinks I did. I guess that is good enough. I'm pretty hard on myself so I'll chalk it up to overall pessimism.
There is nothing on TV. We went from watching a movie called The Marine that was just awful, to watching Just Like Heaven. Ugh. Seen it once, don't need to see it again. Oh well.
Well, this is blog #2. They are not getting any better. I will try one more at some point and if it isn't worth reading then I'll pass the blogging hat on to someone else. If I had ever made a list of "Things To Do" in life, then maybe I could cross this one off.
Cheers

First Blog Ever
Hmm. Not sure how this is going to work. My life is fairly normal. Not too much happens that is worth writing about except for my kids. Kids are always worth writing about. I have two and they are adorable in my eyes. I would think my husband would agree as well.
Today my daughter decided to have a donut for breakfast but I passed since I have started my diet (again). Of course she only ate 2 bites on the way to school and decided to leave the rest in the car...the diet starts again tomorrow.
I'm watching "So You Think You Can Dance" (replay of course since I have 2 kids that require a lot of convincing to go to bed). What is 'frumping' and how do you explain it to a 6 year old? Keep in mind, I can't dance so my explanation is just an attempt to appease her.
My friend told me how to do this 'blogging' thing. She is awesome. She is also pregnant but isn't telling anyone yet. I'm going to try and help her with 'what really to expect when expecting' but if you have kids, then you already know, no one knows. Don't tell her that yet. We'll let it be a surprise.
Well, this first blog ever is pretty much a bust but we'll see how they morph in later posts. (Now I have to figure out how to post).
